Occupational Skills Shortage Analysis Report

Lisa Taylor Consulting recently completed an Occupational Skills Shortage Analysis for Skills Tasmania.

The objective of the analysis was to:
- Define skill shortages in Tasmania
- Identify and explain the causes of skill shortages in Tasmania
- Classify skill and labour shortages
- Profile Tasmania’s industry sectors based on contribution to the economy
- Identify specific occupational shortages
- Identify occupations not in short supply in Tasmania
- Identify the impact of skill and labour shortages on Tasmanian industries, the economy and the community.

The findings of the Occupational Skill Shortage Analysis provides a comprehensive foundation from which Skills Tasmania can determine the relative economic and social significance of skill shortages in different occupations and industries in Tasmania. This will enable Skills Tasmania to make informed decisions to develop priorities for skill acquisition and development strategies. In particular, this analysis provides Skills Tasmania with a critical insight into the impact of skill shortages on the economic, workplace and social spheres of the Tasmanian community.

The final report has now been published and is available on the Skills Tasmania website.

The covering letter and report can be accessed through the below links.

Hi Lisa
I saw, with much interest and excitement, this report on the Skills Tas website on Friday. As I hadn't heard anything about it, I looked for a date somewhere to check on whether it was new, or an older recycled report (often websites aren't as up-to-date as they could be so I take nothing for granted!). There seemed to be nothing to indicate this, so I'm glad you have written about it this morning.
It makes for interesting reading.
Cheers - Helen

Hi Helen, the final report was completed in mid-July 2008, so is as current as mid-July! I have advised Skills Tasmania of your feedback and recommended including a date on the cover page.

Very good point!

Cheers, Lisa

PS - I note that on your InSummary received today, you have included the logo "connect with your future", which may well have been on all the others previously received, I just never noticed it till today!

Our CAA logo is "connect to your future". I thought yours sounded familiar!

hi Helen... yes 'connect with your future' is the tagline for tasmanianjobs.com. See http://www.tasmanianjobs.com. There are a few similar taglines/logos out there. 'Connect' is a very important term these days, and has so many important and implied meanings!

Cheers, Lisa
